I'm so glad you took the time to write this.. The XenForo documentation assumes a certain amount of knowledge.

I've been manually editing files so far, which I knew wasn't the right way to do it but didn't know how to do it otherwise.

I'll be sure to report back once I've built my first add-on using this guide.. ;)
